Girdwood is a town with approximately 2,000 residents and is located on the northern shore of the Turnagain Arm in the Municipality of Anchorage and only 35 miles from the capital’s downtown area. The average temperatures in January range from six to 20 degrees and in the summer from 50 to 70 degrees.

Skiing is extremely popular in Girdwood. The Aleyska resort is right at the base of the Chugach Mountains. This mountain is world-renowned, and individuals from all over the world fly to Girdwood to go skiing. The resort also hosts many summer activities, including running meets, arts festivals, tandem paragliding and mountain hikes. The city is home to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, which cares for many endangered species. You can drive through the 140-acre park and see moose, brown bears, porcupines, elk, bison, caribou, musk ox, Sitka black-tail deer and many other animals.

Girdwood real estate is plentiful, with almost 40 percent of homes standing vacant. The median home cost is $281,400, and the median home appreciation is 11.99 percent. Furthermore, the average home is 23 years old, has 1,314 square feet and has a lot size of 20 acres. Average apartment rent is approximately $921 per month. Currently listings show that you can obtain a one-bedroom, one-bathroom home for $249,000, while a 4 to 5 bedroom and three-bathroom home can cost as much as $850,000 to $950,000.
